How a person handles a horse says a lot about them. I ride for many reasons, and the benefit I get from it varies from day to day: self-improvement, relaxation, learning, companionship, solace, reflection, and sometimes I'm getting some work done. The rhythms of feeding and caring for my animals anchors my life in ways that few other things can. They accept me as I am, and they are always ready to be a partner.

I have an indoor job, so I really enjoy the contrast of working with horses. No matter what the weather is doing, they get me outside. I ride with friends on the abundant trails here, and I work in the arena, especially when there is too much snow in the mountains. After 44 years with my own horses I still feel like a beginner, there's always more to learn.
In the last few years I got back into doing some competition in eventing - which is a great adrenaline rush. I also really enjoy gathering cattle. I recently did some sorting pairs for friends, and my mare and I both really enjoyed it - she's a cow pony after all.
I love healthy, fresh, homecooked food. I bake my own bread and pies, and I like a glass of wine now and again with good company.
I'm fairly quiet, but can hold my own just fine in a social setting. I value concise, clear, patient communication with friends and partners - they should be able to talk through things with patience. I like a partner who is spare with words, but long on understanding and sensitivity. I think I'm pretty steady in handling the things we can't control in life, though sometimes that's hard. I like a guy with a positive outlook and an open mind.
