A good friend recently shared her observation with me that “You can take the man out of the Midwest but not the Midwest out of the man.” She was so very right.
After a career as a Marine officer and leader in a couple of corporate non-profits, I built a home and just recently retired near family in South Dakota. Once again I am enjoying the Midwest-familiar friendliness and helpfulness of new neighbors and friends. Like most retirees I had some transitions to accomplish before truly beginning to enjoy this new freedom.
I’m now relishing giving back to the community with a local equine therapy organization helping challenged kids learn to ride. I’ve returned to riding as well after a long hiatus and do ranch sorting. Attending local hockey games (Go Musketeers!) has been one of those kinds of events that far exceeded my expectations and now that COVID restrictions are relaxing I look forward to live music and sports again.
I’m here seeking a real relationship where I can complement her life and she will complement mine. A life where we have activities/hobbies that we share and where we’re happy and comfortable in the quiet times or doing our own thing. Kindness, authenticity, thoughtfulness, open communication, a sense of humor and constant mutual loving support are all keys to me.
